This handcrafted collection, ‘Pot Variations,’ designed by Aldo Bakker represents a journey of method and material discovery, a family of vessels, each bearing its own name and individual characteristics.
J Hill's Standard were hosted by the Shanghai founded fashion house: Anest Collective in their Milan showroom, the core piece, a kiln cast crystal glass vessel, uses a highly innovative mold, formed around a void. The skills acquired during the research phase will expand the practice of making glass in Ireland, which is central to the mission of J. HILL’s Standard.
The overall collection is cross-disciplinary and explores each form using a small band of highly skilled and increasingly rare hand makers: in glass both blown and kiln cast, in brass, stone and porcelain.
HopStep Pots - for holding precious liquids be it wine, soy, sake or oil;
or to use as an infusion chamber for teas + flowers
Cloud - an air borne puff of a pipe
Moustache - a plump sea creature posing as an ashtray
The pots accompany you through the ceremonies of the everyday; each one functioning both as a sculptural and a practical object.
Founder of JHS Anike Tyrrell notes ‘We were drawn by the originality and lightness that suffuses all of Aldo’s objects. This quality springs partly from his strong sense of play and humour. Beauty, magic, escape from the world of noise into embodied calm and quietness –these things are fugitive but to the fore in everything he creates.
